Marbella, located on the Mediterranean coast between Malaga and the Gibraltar Strait, is one of the most famous cities on the Costa del Sol. A favourite haunt for the rich and famous from around the world and often dubbed ‘Spain’s answer to St. Tropez’, this city is home to much exclusive Marbella property, from traditional whitewashed townhouses to new houses, apartments, villas and penthouses.

The Old Town follows almost the same layout as in the sixteenth century. It is wonderful to take a stroll from your Marbella property and gaze at the remarkable buildings there. The Renaissance-style Town Hall and the Mayor’s House, with its Mudejar-style roof and fresco murals and Gothic - Renaissance façade and the Baroque-style Church of Santa Maria de la Encarnación are awe-inspiring. History-lovers will find interest in the remains of the Arabic castle and defensive walls. The two historic suburbs of the city, Barrio Alto and Barrio Neuvo are also worth exploring, and would be fantastic Marbella property locations. The Barrio Neuvo in particular retains much of its original character with simple whitewashed houses, with tiled roofs and exposed beams, orchard and small corrals.

Between the Old Town and the sea, the historic area of Eixample is another wonderful Marbella property location. Perfect for exploring are the small botanical garden on Paseo de la Alameda and the garden on Avenida del Mar, which is home to 10 Salvador Dali sculptures and beautiful fountains. It’s most pleasant to take a walk through the garden to the beach. To the west, Constitution Park is home to the auditorium of the same name and the famous Skol Apartments. These were designed in the modernist style by the Spanish architect Manuel Jaén Albaitero, and would make for a unique Marbella property.

Marbella property is ideal for those that love nothing more than whiling away the hours on the beach. The city boasts no fewer than 27 km of coastline, and 24 beaches of golden or dark sand. Artola beach, with its backdrop of dunes, is naturist-friendly. The Venus and Fontanilla beaches, which are centrally located, are very popular and those at San Pedro Alcántara and Puerto Banús have blue flag status. The Golden Mile between Marbella and Puerto Banús is also the location for some of the most luxurious residences in the area, including King Fahid’s palace and exclusive hotels such as Hotel Marbella Club. A Marbella property in this area would certainly be something special.

Lovers of fine-dining will find that Marbella property has plenty to offer. The Avenida Ricardo, the lively main thoroughfare, is lined with top restaurants and coffee shops with outdoor dining areas. The Estepona area, with its lovely village character, offers a cluster of restaurants on terraces, which overlook the marina. Marbella is understandably known for its seafood, and there are many Spanish dining establishments serving local specialities, which include fried fish dishes, grilled prawns, fish stews, lobster, tortilla, paella, cold meats and sausages. Those who enjoy tapas can find plenty of choice in the bars around the Plaza de Altamarino, Plaza de la Victoria and along Calle San Lazaro.

Other attractions include the beautiful marina, spectacular golf courses and fashionable shops. It is easy to travel to the beautiful nearby village of Mijas, and explored the cobbled streets and marvel at the beautiful whitewashed houses. Gibraltar is easy for a day trip from your Marbella property, as are the mountains and the Costa del Sol towns of Estepona and Calahonda. A car is recommended. Marbella is protected by the Cordillera Penibética mountains and enjoys a pleasant microclimate with average annual temperatures of 18°C. With 2 900 hours of sunshine per year, your Marbella property will often be basking in beautiful golden rays!
