Spain is a varied, diverse country. In fact, it is not very difficult to find references to the "different Spains" due to the climate, natural and cultural diversity of its regions. In general there are clear distinctions between Northern Spain, humid and green; inland Spain, sparsely populated and infinitely flat; Mediterranean Spain, fertile and luminous; Southern Spain (Andalusia), the most famous, hot and dry, bright as the whitewash of its homes; and the two "Island Spains" The Balearic Isles and the Canary Islands.

Andalucia, famous for its sun, poets, its beautiful traditions, original folklore, age old history and the magnificent heritage left behind by the Moors, is one of the most attractive regions of Spain. The proximity of very different countryside - mountains, valleys full of orchards and the clear blue sea is undoubtedly one of the main attractions of this coast, which has all the attractive features of the Mediterranean scenery and culture.

This section of the Costa del Sol lying west of Marbella has an abundance of mooring points for leisure craft, ranging from marinas to harbour docksides and quays belonging to sailing clubs or fisherman's guilds. The area can be reached either via Malaga airport which is roughly half an hour's drive from Marbella, or via Gibraltar when Sotogrande is barely 20 minutes' drive and Estepona 40 minutes' drive.

Activities

The coast has many good beaches and there is a wide choice of tennis facilities, water skiing, yachting and other marine activities, while inland there are the attractive hill villages of Jimena de la Frontera, Gaucin, Manilva, Casares and Ronda. Neuva Andalucia boasts a casino and there are riding facilities at Puerto Romano near Estepona and at Sotogrande.

There are numerous golf courses located around Spain. Among them are courses worthy to mention due to their beauty and for hosting famous international and national tournaments, such as the Golf Rio Real in Malaga.
