n February 1458, King Charles VII gave Letters Patent to François de Vendel to fortify his house and this gave rise to the construction of the fortified castle in typical medieval architecture of the XV century the remains of which we see today. It was lived in until the Revolution when it 1793 it was sacked and later, during the Vendéen Wars a fire destroyed the timbers and floors but the main construction in pink granite remained. A fortified square castle of the XVth century surrounded by a moat across which was a drawbridge and flanked by four towers at the corners with a fifth tower within the keep. A high crenelated parapet on each of the towers and high cross shaped windows for the archers. The original coat of arms is engraved above one of the windows. The original outer defensive wall has disappeared now partly forming a path or a low wall. To the south the moat and a dovecote within a round tower. Within the moat is the second defensive barrier within the courtyard and a pretty agricultural worker's house, typical of the region, is attached to the wall which then drops away towards the moat. The third defence is the fortress, in the guard tower at the entrance is a spiral staircase leading to the parapets - the height of a modern five storey house. It was the first floor of the chateau which was the most prestigious with its own chapel, an remains of a fine monumental fireplace of the main hall where a whole ox could be roasted. The remains of fourteen fireplaces may be observed, each fashioned differently. The chateau was listed as a historic monument in 1898. The sale also includes nearly 2 hectares of land with the buildings plus over 6 hectares of woodland together with the farm of about 100 hectares which is currently on lease to two brothers to expire in about 2025.
