The Area
Probably the best waters in Greece. An excellent combination of the magic green-blue colour of the sea, the secluded golden sand beaches surrounded by pine covered cliffs, and the mild summer breeze, make Halkidiki the ideal place to relax under the sun and enjoy the sea: the perfect temperature combined with the calm waters offer the whole family a most pleasant and safe place to swim.
Halkidiki is a peninsula and a pole of attraction for thousands of tourists every summer. There are great variations in the landscape, from pine covered mountains, mile long sand beaches, picturesque little beaches among pine trees and rocks, beautiful little islands and traditional villages.
All modern amenities can be found in Halkidiki. There are 5 star hotels, golf courses, restaurants, theatres and festivals with international artists visiting during the summer.
There are numerous historic places as well. One can visit the birthplace of Aristotle at Stageira, the ancient cave of Petralona (dated 500 BC), or take a day trip to the unique Athos Peninsula, a semi-autonomous region where there are byzantine monasteries dating back to the 9th century.
How to get there - There are direct flights to Thessaloniki from most European airports. From Thessaloniki, most places in Halkidiki are within an hour's drive.
Activities
There are many sports facilities: tennis courts, a wide range of water sports, riding, sailing, diving, mountain biking.
Mountain hiking is an excellent idea, since one can enjoy great views of the gulfs. Yachts can be chartered for a day or more. There are also golf courses and a luxurious casino at Porto Carras.
