Wheelchair Accessible Property
There is an increasing range of wheelchair accessible property for sale throughout Europe as property developers are beginning to realise that there is a demand for developing properties with wheelchair access. Finding such a home enables wheelchair users to be independent and go about their homes in the confidence that they can reach most areas in them without needing help. These properties are either existing properties that have already been adapted and have good wheelchair access or new properties that have been specially built to meet the individual requirements of wheelchair users.
France has a fairly good range of wheelchair accessible property for sale. A beautifully renovated four bedroom stone house in the peaceful and tranquil Midi Pyrenees has an attached wing with a bedroom/living room and ensuite shower room all adapted for wheelchair use and a price tag of 420,000 EUR. A renovated complex of four gîtes in the town of Mansle in the Poitou Charente has one which has been fully adapted for wheelchair use with a sliding door from the living room providing access to the ground floor bedroom and ensuite adapted shower room and toilet – all for 336,000 EUR.
Spain is also starting to market wheelchair accessible property. A luxury modern two bedroom apartment in Torrevieja on the Costa Blanca has been specially adapted for wheelchair access; one bedroom has an ensuite wet room and all worktops, cupboards and drawers are on a lower level to facilitate easy access for a person in a wheelchair. The price of 198,000 EUR also includes private parking. Similarly in Tarragona there are a number of new developments where apartments are being specially adapted for wheelchair users with prices from around 240.000 EUR for a two bedroom property. There are also a number of existing properties which have wheelchair access. For example a three bedroom bungalow in Tenerife has ensuite wet room, direct access from the living room onto the terrace and a one level low maintenance garden for around 200,000 EUR or how about a five bedroom villa near Malaga for 285,000 EUR with wheelchair ramp up to the front door, ground level bedroom with ensuite wet room and elevator access to the first floor.
Portugal also has a number of wheelchair accessible property but you have to look hard! For example a charming traditional six bedroom stone house with tiled roof just 15km from Faro airport has been adapted for disabled use with a ground floor bedroom and ensuite wet room and wide doors for wheelchair access and costs 695,000 EUR. Or a luxury 2 bedroom modern apartment in Vale de Lobo in the Algarve with stunning views of the 12th Green Royal Golf Course, infinity pool and huge sun terrace; completely adapted for wheelchair accessibility and with internal elevator from the underground car park directly to the apartment this has a price tag of 800,000 EUR.
Similarly, Italy does not have a huge range of wheelchair accessible property for sale although demand is growing. A beautifully renovated six bedroom villa in Brindisi has a self-contained two bedroom apartment specifically adapted for wheelchair use complete with wider doorways and wheelchair friendly bathrooms and direct access to a covered veranda for al fresco dining – all for 595,000 EUR. Or how about a traditional stone farmhouse in Puglia – completely renovated to be wheelchair friendly the three bedroom property is all on one level and costs 265,000 EUR.Whether a brand new apartment specifically designed for your needs on the sunny south coast of Spain or a traditional stone house adapted for wheelchair access hidden in deepest rural France, there is a good range of wheelchair accessible property for sale throughout the Europe although supply does vary from country to country. However, with an increasing number of new developments being specifically designed for wheelchair access and with more property being renovated to take wheelchair access into consideration, it is clear that wheelchair accessible property for sale is on the increase to meet the growing demand.
