Qormi: This one-of-a-kind, extensive Palazzo was constructed in 1589 and was built on commission for the order of the Knights of St. John (1530-1798).
The main entrance is through a narrow alley and consists of a very plain facade that is brought to life by the majestic carved doorway, windows with Melitan mouldings and delicately carved leaf decorations on the consoles that support the window pediments. These rest on grotesque heads and tall narrow panelled pilasters lying against the windows’ architraves. Grotesque heads embellish the lintels supporting the window pediments, each of which is different from the other.
The Palazzo consists of a main building and courtyard. A continuous open stone balcony used to surround the courtyard and an elaborate staircase lead from this balcony into the main garden.
This fascinating property also has a baroque chapel on the upper floor.
The roof is accessed via a traditional spiral staircase. A water lifting apparatus that is still in relatively good condition, is housed in the annex to the main building which shows the date MDLXXXIX.
The north boundary wall of the Palazzo is what remains of a very large pigeon loft.
Internally one finds countless large rooms bearing features such as arches that have all be lovingly restored to their original glory.
The property also enjoys a large pool and barbecue area and a large garden that houses around 300 orange trees.
The seller is also willing to include certain pieces of antique furniture at an additional price.
